Welcome!

Thanks for visiting our family blog! We are excited about this tool and how it will allow us to stay connected with you!

2008 has been a truly remarkable year! Jack and Ben are growing up and are 9 and 4 respectively!

We have answered God's Call to full-time vocational ministry and plan to begin serving with Operation Mobilization beginning in July 2009! We will be a part of their Church Mobilization Team in Tyrone, GA and are excited (and a little bit nervous) about what the next 12 months has in store for us.

Growing Through Support Raising!

Praise God! Through the generosity of friends and family, we are approaching being 20% supported with OM!

Support Raising is what I thought it would be, but it is also a whole lot more. I learned early on that if you view raising support as something you HAVE to do to do "ministry", then you might as well give it up!

The ministering, sharing, and mobilizing we get to do through Support Raising is very humbling and gratifying! Life is full of joys and trials and sharing these with family and friends is a joy and a blessing and that is something I did not anticipate when we set out on this journey called Support Raising.

Take care and God bless each of you reading this blog! We love you!

Dad Turns 80!!

What a fun, family day we had on Sunday, January 25 celebrating Don McPherson's 80th birthday (his actual birthday was January 26, but when you're 80, I think it's OK to jump the gun a little bit). We had the party at my brother Scott's house in Fayetteville - that's right, not too far from OM USA in beautiful Tyrone, GA.
As you can see, lots of cake and fun, but the highlight of the day were the the stories we each shared about life lessons and special memories of our Dad. I shared about the times that he and I went to Cincinnati Reds games when I was a boy and how proud I was of him when we walked by his office in the big Proctor & Gamble building downtown.
I sure do love my Dad and am thrilled to be able to see him every week and to have him be such a big part in our lives.
So, if you find yourself at FBCW on a Sunday morning, you might run into my Dad greeting at his favorite door near the Senior Adult parking lot. Make sure you say "hi" and tell him how good he looks for a man his age :)
Congrats Dad! You're the best! May God bless you!!

THANKS FOR HELPING KRISTIE!

A funny thing happened the other day as I was minding my own business sitting down to breakfast with a friend to TALK about ministry - God gave me a chance to actually DO some ministry! As is usually the case when helping others, I needed to get a little involved and step out of my comfort zone. My friend, Doug, started and God did the rest!

You see, our waitress Kristie has 3 kids and no extra money for Christmas! With just a few simple questions and the love of Christ in our hearts, we were able to determine what kinds of things they wanted for Christmas and take the needs to our Sunday School class! Folks, this is where it gets good. Sometimes, in the past, I have been guilty of taking on too much and not leaving room for God. Well, in this case, just a few words before class last Sunday and we immediately had 4 families step in to fill the need (and I am pretty sure we would have had more involvement if we would have had a greater need).

I just need to stop a minute and talk about our class just a bit. In addition to helping Kristie this week, today we had 10 guys and several vehicles at full service helping another member of the class with one of life's least desireable activities - MOVING! God is really at work in our class as needs are being met, new people are coming, and God's Word is being taught and applied in a powerful way! I love each and every one of you!

Getting back to Kristie, well, needless to say, she was really touched! Not by the extravegance of the gifts (because they weren't), but that someone who had just stopped in for breakfast took just a little time to care. Not because we had to, but because He asked us to. I don't know yet what all will happen with Kristie, but I do know that I and many others in our class received a blessing by Serving God!

So, I learned to always be on the lookout for an opportunity to share Christ and minister to others. There are lots of hurting folks out there and helping them is never the easiest thing to do, but it is almost always the RIGHT thing to do!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We just wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas! We had some fun the other day in Kennesaw at The Santa Parade. The boys got to meet Santa himself and clue him in on what they wanted for Christmas!

It was a fun day of family time, but it got me thinking a little bit (uh oh, that could be trouble). Do we give as much thought to the true meaning of Christmas? I want to challenge each of you (as I was) to pause and reflect on the birth of Jesus Christ, which is what Christmas is really all about. Two thousand years ago, He was born of a woman so we could be born of God. Today, He is still saving and still redeeming and desires for you to come to Him to receive His free gift of salvation! Merry CHRISTmas everyone!
